Sailfish OS soon on your Android smartphone

After launching the first smartphone Sailfish OS Jolla enters a second stage of the promotion of its mobile OS.

Sailfish OS is part of the emerging operating systems that want to be part of the mobile landscape of tomorrow. Based on Meego (formerly used by Nokia), it is by no means a Fork Version (as amended) of Android.

However, unlike Ubuntu Touch or Firefox OS, Sailfish OS can support Android applications (such as BlackBerry 10). Last year Jolla launched a smartphone OS Sailfish. It is primarily intended to serve as a reference and convey the spirit of the promoter company of the mobile OS. Indeed, Sailfish OS can be installed on Android devices and the designer seems determined to conquer a certain share in this market.

Jolla announced today that the first complete commercial version of the OS will be poised at the beginning of March. And owners of some Android smartphones will soon be able to install on their devices Sailfish. According to some speculations, it targeted especially models from Samsung and Sony, as well as terminals of the Nexus range.

Meanwhile, a launcher for Android is also provided. Like the launcher announced by Mozilla Firefox OS , that of La Jolla will be used to discover and accustom users to the interface offered by Sailfish OS. Indeed, one of the good points of the new mobile operating system is its interface and ergonomics, further support for Android apps.

And all that is expected to be announced in the first half of this year. This means that by June, we should be able to install Sailfish on many models of Android smartphones. Normally OS Jolla use the store application Yandex, a Russian giant web, as an alternative to Google Play Store. And the developer community that supports Sailfish OS has already created native applications for Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Foursquare.
