Chrome OS gets support for Adobe Photoshop

Chrome OS is an ideal operating system for people who consume a lot of content on the web, or in order to draft documents, but did not offer much for content creators. If you enjoy working in editing photos, Chrome OS was primarily a system to avoid. Indeed, a crucial piece of the sector was missing: Adobe Photoshop.

But today, Google and Adobe are finally resolve this situation, since they announced the porting Photoshop on Chrome OS .

Good, and before you empressiez to use the application, here is a list of warning. This is just a project in beta. Initially, it will only be available for American students who have a subscription to Creative Cloud.

In other words, Adobe Photoshop will be available for people who use a Chromebook if:

  • You are based in the United States
  • you are a customer of Adobe education
  • you have a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud
Photoshop will therefore not be a local application: it will be a version of "streaming" of Photoshop . Google does not say much about this version, only that it is designed to run directly from the cloud on your Chromebook. The good news is that it is fully integrated with Google Drive, and so there is no need to download and upload files. Indeed, simply to save your work directly to the cloud of Photoshop.
Adobe website responds to some white, indicating that the application is running in a "virtual environment" and will not support the GPU at launch. Network characteristics are listed as being "5 Mbps with a maximum latency of 250", suggesting that there is no offline mode. And if you want to use the application while mobile, you'll need a good connection LTE. This version of Photoshop will also be accessible on a Chrome browser running on Windows.

Anyway, this first foray should only be the beginning of a long series of Creative Cloud applications to be on Chrome OS . The publication of Google mentions that Photoshop is just the first application. (The Adobe site states that "other products [are] arrive soon" .

In the worst case, you can use a free online tool like Pixlr in order to edit images, or install Ubuntu on your Chromebook and install GIMP.
