Disassembling the iMac Retina 5K reveals what is inside

Apple unveiled the impressive 27-inch iMac with a Retina display with a 5K resolution at its own event held in Cupertino last weekend.

Continuing his fascination with Apple products, iFixit , already known for its surgical removal of all organs devices and placing them side by side, iFixit has already acquired and completely disassembled the new iMac with a Retina screen 5K .

Latest Apple iMac model continues to use many of the same design elements as the previous iMacs, including an easily accessible location to make upgrading the RAM and even the SSD. Thus, with the memory accessible to all, consumers will be able to install their own RAM chips without too much trouble.

With a graphics card AMD Radeon M290X and the Intel i5-4690 processor, the iMac has 2GB of GDDR5 memory. It uses the same bar SanDisk PCIe SSD that the MacBook Pro Retina, the same Marvell controller, and it uses the same AirPort / Bluetooth, which was used on the 27-inch iMac in 2013.

Although some components have been significant improvements, such as those related to the display, the teardown also revealed that the 5K, which sports a resolution of 5120 x 2880 screen was manufactured by LG Display. This is the same partner who also made the screen of the previous generation iMac.
The 27-inch iMac with Retina display 5K got a repairability score of 5 out of 10 , the same score for the iMac 27-inch 2013 iFixit noted that the RAM, hard drive and graphics card are easily replaced by anyone, but remove the glass panel and the LCD of the machine remains a difficult task.
