The Matchstick will support the local streaming, and ad hoc connections

The Matchstick is a device that you can plug into a TV to stream content from an Internet connection. It looks great in Chromecast Google, but it runs on the platform OS Mozilla Firefox, and has a Rockchip RK3066 processor. It should be marketed at around 25 dollars when it becomes available. The creators hope to launch in early 2015.

Matchstick developers are currently raising funds on Kickstarter , and while they have already exceeded the initial goal of 100,000 dollars, they announced some new features that might attract more backers.

As Chromecast Google, the Mathstick has an HDMI connector allows you to connect the drive to your TV and a micro-USB port to power the device. Once it is connected, you can take your smartphone, tablet or other compatible device to find the content you want to cast it on TV.

While this has always been the plan, here's what's new: the Local Play and Ad Hoc modes.

With the new Local Play mode, you can stream your TV content from a media server connected to your home network . So if you have a storage server connected to your network (SIN), a shared network drive or other media connected with SAMBA or NFS protocols, you can use an application on your smartphone to find files on your network and send them to your Mathstick. There will also API so that developers can create their own applications based on Local Play.

Ad Hoc Mode goes even further, because not only will you have the opportunity to cast the contents of your smartphone or tablet on your TV, but you'll be able to do it without an Internet connection . Basically, Matchstick become a hotspot wireless Ad Hoc mode. Just connect your smartphone to the local network, and find the music, photos, or videos you want to send to the TV. Then just press the play button.

This will make it easier to use a Matchstick key when you are in a hotel, a conference room, or friends.

Well, I can not wait to have this key home!
