Android 5.0 focused on the Galaxy Nexus, Xperia Z, and other devices

While the first devices marketed with the latest version of the operating system from Google, Android 5.0 Lollipop find themselves gradually on Google Play Store, Google should soon begin deploying Android 5.0 on smartphones and tablets existing Nexus. Now, manufacturers such as Sony, HTC or Motorola, are busy behind the scenes.

While the source code for Android 5.0 is now available Lollipop, independent developers start working with them to push the latest version of the OS on smartphones and tablets that have been set aside by Google and manufacturers . Indeed, among the new devices supported, we'll find out who will probably never have an official version of Android 5.0.

Of these, we will find especially the GSM version of Galaxy Nexus from Samsung, the Galaxy S III Mini Samsung, the Xperia Z Sony, and even some devices that will finally have an official portage, including the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.

Unfortunately, this port the operating system is not necessarily rosy. Although the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) provides the framework for general mobile operating system from Google, make it work with photo sensors, Wi-Fi chip and data, or the audio chip can s' prove to be a rather tough process - especially for independent developers who may not have access to proprietary drivers for the smartphone or tablet on which they work.

But for some people, this is the challenge that projects like this are interesting, and allows us to see the latest versions of Android brought on all sorts of devices that have been long since abandoned by their respective manufacturers. Hopefully history will repeat now that Android 5.0 is available.

On the other hand, some developers have complained that Google ignores some of its applications and services AOSP to work on its own applications. For example, there are new applications Calendar or Gmail. But they are not open source. If you want to use the AOSP version, you're stuck with older versions of those applications that have not been designing Material Design.
