Rockchip and Intel launched their first chip set

Intel and the chip maker Rockchip Chinese began working together on processors for smartphones, tablets and other entry devices. Last October, we learned that the first chip to come out of this partnership would be the XMM6321, dual-core ARM Cortex-A5, which offers 3G capabilities.

Now that Rockchip announced the worldwide availability of XMM6321 chip, then it could start to appear in the entry-level devices, such as smartphones, tablets and Android phablettes in the coming months .

Rockchip said a Dubai-based manufacturer has placed an order for 100,000 units, for use in a Phablet 7 inches. Now that XMM6321 chip available on the world market, we could see embedded in other devices.

The XMM6321 chip has an Intel radio / Infineon AG 620 for 2G and 3G communications and the Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0. Rockchip said that it opens the way for future chips that will offer support for 4G LTE. The CPU has a clock speed of 1 GHz, but it can be overclocked to run at 1.2 GHz. Although it is far Qualcomm chips, it should be noted that this processor is designed for entry-level devices with screens from 3.5 to 7 inches. The chip is in turn supports resolutions of 854 x 480 or 1024 x 600 pixels.

It can handle the decoding of 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second, but do not expect to see smartphones or tablets with Full HD screens embark this chip.

Other features include support for a sensor 8 megapixel rear camera and a 3 megapixel front camera with 720P HD video encoding at 24 frames per second.
