Samsung hopes that curved screen will promote its smartphones

Samsung has already talked about his plans to revive declining profits, through the improvement of its entry and mid-range devices. We have already seen the first example in the Galaxy Note Edge , which features a second screen on the side, used for shortcuts, dedicated notifications and applications. Samsung executives have discussed the difficulty of producing such a screen, while offering a smartphone with an attractive design, and in a world obsessed with big screens: "a curved screen is a great solution to overcome these challenges".

The next big release smartphone from Samsung is likely to be the successor of the Galaxy S5, tentatively known as the Galaxy S6 . It has also been described as a "dream smartphone," and has appeared in several rumors. An analyst at a conference in Korea, discussed the possibility that the Galaxy S6 uses a dual-screen, similar to the design of the Edge Note.

However, while Samsung seems to go in this direction, the company is going to need help from developers to ensure that this new design does not just become a useless gadget . The extra screen Galaxy Note Edge has some handy tools, but Samsung encourages innovation outside own uses it actually in the smartphone. The mere fact that the screen has a different appearance may not be enough.

Samsung is not alone in thinking that this technology will sell more expensive smartphones. LG Display has recently shown its roadmap for the next three years, and plastic flexible OLED displays are clearly highlighted. The firm wants to bring them to smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions. She has already used such a screen on the G Watch R and G Flex.
