Motorola, HTC, Sony, and a number of other manufacturers of smartphones and tablets have all mentioned work on porting Lollipop, and promised that the update would be pushed to the consumer devices in the weeks and months ahead. And now, Sony is already showing what looks like Android 5.0 on its recent smartphones, the Xperia Z1, Z2 and Z3 .

The company began testing the source code of Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on devices to make available soon binaries that allow developers (and fans) to test Android 5.0 AOSP on their Sony smartphones.

Although this work from Sony is commendable, it is clear that the company also has everything to gain by exposing the AOSP release of Android 5.0 on its own devices . Even if this version does not have all the bling-bling of the final, and perhaps even the Play Store, Gmail, Maps, Google Now, YouTube, know that developers can use the Google AOSP code and binary Sony to create their own custom ROM. A must-have for anyone who loves hacking. These testers can then report bugs and other issues with Sony, allowing the Japanese firm to reconcile its version before its official deployment.
Lollipop Sony hopes to finalize early next year , which turns out to be the trend with other manufacturers who are committed to update their devices. Of course, this is not going as fast as the Nexus or Motorola devices, but it's something.
