The sensor will be able to take pictures of 21 megapixels . This new sensor 21 megapixel 1 / 2.4 inch, has a slightly smaller area than the previous model (which was 1 / 2.3 inches) for the same number of pixels (each measuring 1,12μm then). The IMX230 uses a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, integrating it a phase detect autofocus with 192 points distributed over the entire sensor. If you believe the press, the system will be able to anticipate the movements of the subject, ensuring a perfect focus, and that whatever happens.
The other point on which Sony has worked is the quality of image, with integrated support for HDR (High Dynamic Range), the image will no longer be 21 megapixels, but about 15, a quarter less. Finally, the sensor provides a 4K video recording, among other things.

Clearly, this means that the IMX230 should allow detection autofocus high speed so that you can track and capture fast moving targets. HDR imaging feature allows you to capture still images or videos with a wide range of colors, including shades and other gradients in a backlit environment.

And what better than its future flagship smartphone to present the possibilities of this new sensor? How about to see built into the Sony Xperia Z4 ? It's a possibility. Moreover, in addition to the sensor, the smartphone should have a 5.5 inch screen with a resolution Quad HD or 2560 x 1440 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 810, a 64-bit chip, 4GB of RAM and a graphics chip Adreno 430. The smartphone will be launched with Android 5.0 and will come with Lollipop 32GB of internal storage. The new Xperia Z4 should be formalized at the MWC 2014 in February.

Sony also plans to launch a version for its 16-megapixel Exmor RS imaging sensor.
