The king he will eventually be dethroned? Hard to say, but the competition is increasingly fierce.
Gartner is very interested in mobile technologies and the firm publishes quarterly and a comprehensive report reflecting the state of the market in terms of sales volume.
He just has to give cover with particularly interesting numbers. If you believe his statements, then our manufacturers have passed 20% more smartphones in the third quarter of the year. It did not look like much but it makes a total of 301 million devices sold, against 250 million last year on the same date.
All markets are however not housed in the same boat and it is finally emerging countries that are doing better. The Western Europe for its part accuses a decline of 5.2%, the third since the beginning of the year.
The meteoric rise Xiaomi expensive to Samsung
Not surprisingly, Samsung comes on the top spot with 24.4% market share and 73 million phones sold. Apple, he throne in second with 38 million sales, against 15.9 million for Huawei, 15.7 million and 15 million Xiaomi Lenovo.
Samsung seems to be doing well, but we must also take into account the changing market. And here, the picture is radically different.
In 2013, at the same time, Samsung had actually sold more than 80 million phones, or 7 million more than this year. Where have they gone? Mainly among Chinese manufacturers, especially among Xiaomi.
And for good reason since it sold this year ... no less than 12 million additional terminals compared to the previous year. The Chinese seem to be fit and it is the same for Huawei (4 million sales over) and Apple (8 million sales and more).
Samsung is therefore the biggest loser in history.
Gartner does not stop there, however, and the firm has also reviewed our mobile platforms.
Android arrives in pole position with 83.1% market share (against 82% in 2013), followed by iOS (12.7%) and Windows Phone (3%). BlackBerry OS falls to his share to 0.8% market share, against 1.8% in 2013.
