ASUS ZenWatch: it could offer a 7-day autonomy

The battery is currently the bane of the existence of a smartwatch. However, this may not be a problem for everyone, especially if one believes the allusions CEO of ASUS, Jonney Shih. At a recent event, Shih suggested that the next smartwatch ZenWatch the firm could offer a range of one week on a single charge.

Currently, the first generation of ZenWatch, which features the all new mobile platform from Google, Android Wear, lasts only a day or two at most. Like most smartwatches the ZenWatch is the true extension of the smartphone with which it is paired. ASUS is working on solving these problems with the next generation of connected his watch.

"The ZenWatch is defined as a true companion for a smartphone, and we believe it still has many things to improve" , said Shih, according to the Taipei Times. Since this is a support system, its main data processing chip and operating system should be simpler than the current version , so that we could use for up to seven days before passing through an electrical outlet, against only two days at present, said Shih.

New chip, abandoning Android Wear?
Based on the statements of Shih, it seems that ASUS wants to manage more effectively the processor of the watch, while simplifying the OS to meet the challenges of a smartwatch. The Taiwanese company is not the first to suggest a different operating system could make all the difference. The Tizen OS Samsung runs on a large number of portable devices, including some self smartwatches also have cellular connectivity, so that they function as smartphones.

It is unclear whether ASUS will go through with these ideas, and what OS it could take instead of Android Wear.

However, previous statements Shih suggest that the second generation of ZenWatch is scheduled for the third quarter of 2015. Some rumors are suggesting that the device could have a SIM card to make calls from the watch. The company could also introduce a low-cost model, and some connected objects focusing on health in the near future.
