CES 2015: Acer Chromebook 15, a giant screen for Chrome OS

Like it or not, the Chromebooks are ubiquitous today. Today is especially true since Acer has just announced the first laptop running Chrome OS has a 15.6-inch screen . Available for the modest sum of $ 250, the Acer Chromebook 15 has two peculiarities.

Besides the fact that it is the largest Chromebook on the market today, it is also the first to present the 5th generation Intel Core i3 processor - although the Celeron chips also use this architecture.

A choice can be made with the device screen: Full HD option 1920 x 1080 pixels (with wide viewing angles, so presumably an IPS panel), and a more mundane resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, certainly to reduce the price. In all cases, you will have a 15.6 inch screen.

But what about the battery?
With a screen that is 27% larger than the Acer Chromebook 13, the Taiwanese firm still promises a decent battery life for a day. If this small feat can be achieved through the chip based on Broadwell architecture that is power-saving, only further tests will check the Acer claims.

In order to best meet your needs, different models are launched. In addition to the resolution of the screen, you will have the opportunity to choose between an Intel Core i3-5005U processor or Intel Celeron 3205U processor (also based on Broadwell architecture). 2 or 4 GB of RAM are possible choices, as the choice of 16 or 32 GB of storage space.

To complete the connectivity options Chromebook 15, we will find the 802.11ac Wi-fi and Bluetooth 4.0. For connectivity, this model offers a USB 3.0 port and a USB 2.0 port, and an HDMI port and an SD card reader.

The look is not everything, but ...
Anyway, builders Chromebook make every effort to make their laptops Chrome OS as beautiful as they can with the allotted budget. Although this is not as radical as the fake leather 2 Chromebook from Samsung, the white plastic cover on the Acer Chromebook 15 gives a pretty nice look for a device to 250 dollars.

In addition, the extra space due to the screen, allowed Acer to embed the speakers above, which, hopefully, will provide a much better sound than the competition. But what good is a chassis that can not protect what's inside? This is why Acer has strengthened the computer to withstand loads of 50 pounds, and a drop of 30 cm without damage.

On its measurements, the computer has a weight of 2.19 kg and measuring 39.11 x 15.4 x 2.54 cm. In other words, not too bad for a 15-inch notebook. Acer has not mentioned when the Chromebook 15 will arrive on the shelves of shops but we should learn quickly.
