MWC 2015: Getting Started with Nokia N1

Nokia is back in the mobile sector, but not in the same way that the firm has been in previous years. Instead of presenting us with a new smartphone, the Finnish firm has recently launched a tablet called Nokia N1 , which is designed to showcase the clean Nokia Android launcher.

This is clearly a tablet that has a great look, with specifications and a design that virtually correspond exactly to the iPad Mini from Apple.

Nokia N1 was launched last year in China, and be able to take over the tablet out of the country would have been complicated. But at MWC 2015, I managed to squeeze in my hands. In short, I fell a little in love with it. It has a beautifully slim profile, a unibody aluminum shell and a very eye-catching display . Oh, and she Android Lollipop.
Sure, she has a strong resemblance to the iPad Mini, but it is not necessarily a bad thing, and its rounded edges and rounded corners allow to have a great product in hand.
Nokia N1: Design
Made from a single piece of aluminum and equipped with an 8-inch touch screen (Zero Air Gap) Nokia N1 looks fantastic . The back cover is completely smooth, broken only by the name of the Nokia brand and a small 8-megapixel sensor in the top corner. Its location is very accurate, and the curve corresponds to the tablet's chassis curve. She gives it a subtly pleasing symmetrical look.

The slim 6.9 mm chassis is very light with a weight of 318 grams, and the chassis is properly sized, allowing the tablet to be held in one hand. The edges are smooth and rounded, with three buttons nestled in the top right corner.
On the low end, you will find the famous micro-USB port.

While she already has a very premium look, this continues when mentioning the screen. The resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, is as clear as that of an iPad, and IPS panel allows viewing on most angles. Unfortunately, it was impossible to get out of the outside of the enclosure MWC 2015, so I have not been able to judge its performance in the light of the sun. But in theory, it is another technology bonus Zero Air Gap, which removes the layer of air between the touch screen and the LCD module, reduces reflections and easy readability, even in daylight.

Nokia N1 Software
Nokia has installed the Z Launcher as "overlay" to Android 5.0 Lollipop . Like most pitchers, it completely changes how Android looks, but mostly on the surface. By digging a little deeper into its interface, you will find yourself quickly familiar territory. The Nokia Z Launcher is designed to teach how you use your tablet in order to adapt the interface. Thus, it is faster to access applications and features you use most often. The first page is populated by these applications.

There is an unusual search feature on this page, on which you can draw the first letter of the application you need on the screen. Immediately, Z Launcher will find it for you. He learned over the use to target more quickly to your needs. It is also possible to search the Web in this way, and the results will also include your contact. It takes a few days to use the Nokia N1 learn your habits.

A shift to the right shows an alphabetical list of all installed applications, but the tablet often confuses this action, and saves it as a gesture to delete a letter that you have drawn on the screen. This shift must be done in the right place, which may annoy you at first. However, there is an option to disable the Z Launcher if you wish.

Z Launcher is like the third launchers, harmless enough. It is not on the N1 performance as some influences could do, but it is not a reason why Nokia N1 is excellent. The design, construction, and performance offer everything one needs for an Android tablet.

Nokia N1: specifications and performance
It's incredibly fast. The execution of a series of benchmarks helped to highlight some very impressive numbers. There is no doubt that she will do a great entertainment device and games at home. The power is supplied by a 64-bit chip, an Intel Atom processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, and coupled with 2GB of RAM.

Just above the screen, there is a front camera of 5 megapixels, completing the 8-megapixel sensor in the rear. It should be perfect for making video calls.

Under the hood, you'll have 32 GB of internal storage, but there is no option to inflate storage. It's not a huge problem, but the greedy resource users will be disappointed to see the lack of versions 64 and 128 GB.

Nokia N1 is only available in Wi-Fi only version.

There is a nice feature on the Nokia N1, which is the micro-USB port that uses the latest type of connection - USB Type-C - flanked by large speaker grilles. This means that it is a reversible port, which lets you connect your cable without worrying sense - much like the Apple Lightning port. No more fumbling in the dark trying to find which way to connect your cable. Hooray!

Include a battery of 5300 mAh in the N1 which should provide a decent battery life. Obviously for easy handling it is difficult to talk about it.

Interestingly, Nokia participation begins and ends with the design and Z Launcher. N1 is built and sold by Foxconn, the manufacturer responsible for the construction of a large number of smartphones and tablets in the world, including iPads and Apple iPhones.

Nokia N1: Verdict
Currently only on sale in China, Nokia N1 costs 250 dollars . That's $ 100 less than the equivalent iPad Mini 2. Nokia said it intends to market the N1 outside of China in the future, but without giving us a specific date. The term "soon" has just been mentioned by the leaders there.

okia N1 is a great product and I would be disappointed if it did not come home. Indeed, if you are looking for a well-designed Android tablet, and dare I say elegant, while the Nokia N1 is probably the best to date .
