For those unaware, Hangouts is a kind of multi-use messaging utility. You can use it for instant messaging, SMS, or video chats. You can even use Hangouts Phone to call any phone number in the world since the Hangouts application without having to use your mobile plan through VoIP, and Google says that now, when you do this, there has a caller ID, so that the person receiving your call does not identify you as an "unknown".

Other improvements include support for MMS grouped using Google Voice, and support for composing messages through a smartwatch Android Wear saying "OK Google, Hangouts send a message."

There is a new button to write a message, similar to Gmail that floats at the bottom of the touch screen, and facilitates the drafting of a new message.
