Samsung launches its Bio-Processor for connected objects dedicated to health

To date, mobile devices fitness and activity monitoring that can track the number of steps, distance, altitude, heart rate, sleep quality and other statistics are not lacking. But there is always room for improvement, so that Samsung introduced Bio-Processor, what she calls as the "first chip all-in-one health solution".

The Samsung Bio-Processor is a chip with integrated microcontroller, power management circuit, a digital signal processor, eFlash memory, and sensors that can monitor your vital statistics.

The chip can be embedded in equipment that measures the heart rate, skin temperature, body fat, skeletal muscle mass and other physical reactions through:

bioelectrical impedance analysis
photoplethysmogram
electrocardiogram
skin temperature
galvanic skin response

All in a chip
None of these characteristics is revolutionary, but the Bio-Processor is one of the first single-chip solutions integrating all these features in one place. This choice could theoretically reduce the size and cost of the trackers activity and fitness. While useful, I doubt that all data collected by the chip help you improve your daily life. Indeed, do you need to know the temperature of your skin, or your body fat every day to move you? The number of steps is not it enough?

Samsung says that its new Bio-Processor chip will be used for new fitness equipment and health in the first half of 2016.
