Jelly Bean is now installed on 59.1% of devices running Android

Google publishes a monthly series of numbers on the fragmentation of the

mobile platform. Early this year is no exception to the rule.

According to the study conducted by IDC in the third quarter of 2013, Android

holds 81% market share worldwide . It would thus arrive on the top spot,

ahead iOS (12.9%), Windows Phone (3.6%) and BlackBerry (1.7%). In total,

Google and its partners have sold over 211 million units over the same period.

Dashboards offered by the company allow us to have a clearer and more

precise state park idea. Note that these measures are based on data actually

collected by the latest Play Store. Only devices running Android 2.2 and are

thus included in the study.

If you believe the last panel of the firm, Jelly Bean is currently installed on

59.1% of the terminal , against 54.5% last month : 35.9% for Jelly Bean

4.1.x, 15.4% for Jelly Bean 4.2.x and 7.8% for Jelly Bean 4.3.x. KitKat

continue its peaceful rise and it would have been installed on 1.4% of the

terminal, or 0.3% more than last month. This is not surprising because only

the Nexus can officially enjoy the moment.

Ice Cream Sandwich, Honeycomb, Gingerbread and Froyo does not seem to

have said their last word they are installed respectively 16.9%, 0.1%, 21.2%

and 1.3% of smartphones and tablet devices running Android, which is all-

own a total of 39.5%.

For comparison and according to the data shown on this page , iOS 7 was

installed on over 78% of iPhone, iPod and iPad outstanding. Are these figures

are really comparable? Hard to say, but one thing is certain: Apple is the only

one to produce iOS devices. Google, it works with most manufacturers in the

market and they are the ones who ultimately choose to update their mobile

and their slates.
