Even in 2018 Twitter will not have a billion users

An eMarketer study indicates that enrollment growth at Twitter will continue to slow: in 2018, Twitter has 400 million users.
Twitter owes part of its popularity to some peculiarities, to mention only the hashtag. But it turns out that some of these features can also be a drag on growth in the number of users. During the last six months, we have seen many changes in the social network, especially in terms of design. Twitter seems to be facing a serious dilemma. Recently we mentioned a Twitter experience that would have considered removing symbols arobases the particulars and maybe even hashtags.

By removing this aspect "scaffolding", Twitter could actually gain simplicity and therefore encourage new users to join or current users to interact more. But this could also cause the disappointment of users who are familiar with the old interface. We remember very well some reactions when Twitter decided to overhaul the design of the user profile that (let's be honest) now looks like a Facebook page.

The other concern of the social network, it is the interactions. Certainly, it has a solid base of users, but much deceux does not show a great commitment. There are a few weeks ago, an independent study was claimed that nearly one Twitter user two has never published anything. It is indeed necessary that "active user" is not synonymous with "User that posts".

And if the number of Twitter users is growing, eMarketer forecasts say that even in 4 years, the social network will not reach the current numbers of Facebook: more than a billion registered.

According to the research firm, the base of Twitter users increase 24% in 2014 and 2018, this growth will always be two digits. Moreover, the real opportunities for Twitter would not be found in Europe or the United States but in the Asia-Pacific emerging countries (excluding China).

Thus, in 2014, 32.8% of registered Twitter come from these countries and this will reach 40% in 2018. At this point, Twitter have 400 million users, still according to these forecasts.

Note: the official Twitter data indicate that the social network now has 255 million monthly active users. eMarketer has revised this figure downwards because of the many duplicates and corporate accounts.
