BlackBerry plans to launch a new smartphone at an upcoming event to be held in London in September. What is unusual about this smartphone is that it will probably be great, offer a high resolution, square screen and a small keyboard.
Like many rumors suggested so far, the smartphone which is mentioned in this article would probably be the first BlackBerry to offer a 4.5-inch screen and a resolution of 1440 x 1440 pixels, which would provide a high pixel density of 453 pixels per inch.
The device is also expected to carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz and 3 GB of RAM, offering high-end performance.
Anyway, seeing the size of the display, superimposing a keyboard, BlackBerry Passport might look like a smartphone-sized phablette, but without the benefit of a real big screen. Although the big screen and physical keyboard may be components to attract some loyal BlackBerry fans who are waiting for a phablette, it probably will not attract many new customers.
The new screen resolution for a "next generation device" was mentioned by BlackBerry when the company unveiled the BlackBerry documentation 10.3, the next version of its mobile operating system.
Other features expected for BlackBerry 10.3, these include support for the Amazon Appstore for Android and thus have applications, or support for endless folders on the home screen, icons updates, a Quick Setup that you can view with a two-finger swipe, and much more
