For e-commerce sites, Facebook is already a great way to distribute highly targeted advertisements into account demographic parameters, points of interest and other variables. With this it is possible to convert a maximum of Facebook users into buyers. But until now, e-retailers generally provide advertisements which redirect the user to a product page to make the purchase.

The new "Buy" button that Facebook is testing enables online retailers to sell directly from the news feed. "With this feature, people on computers or mobile can click the button to request for action 'Buy' on advertisements or publications pages to purchase a product directly from a company without leaving Facebook, " and says the number one social network.

For what is transaction, Facebook says payments will be securely and that information on credit cards or debit cards that users share with Facebook will not be shared with other advertisers (other than the one proposed the product purchased). Users have the option to save or not the information entered. If this is the case, they may be used for future purchases via Facebook.

Since this is a test, the feature is only available in the United States and only a handful of American SMEs.

For online retailers, this new offering from Facebook could actually increase the rate of conversions. For Facebook, it could be a new way to earn revenue. But in addition to this, the social network could also learn more about the buying habits of its users, which could lead to a refinement of the targeting of its advertisements.
