Google has approached the Swiss pharmaceutical group Novartis to commercialize contact lenses can act as biosensor and help especially diabetics.
Google and Novartis entered into an agreement to sell via the subsidiary of the Swiss group Alcon contact lenses incorporating technology developed by Google.
Lenses "smart" touch developed by Google aimed at improving the lives of those who wear them. It is technology-based ultra-mail minaturisée Google will provide Alcon, meanwhile, commits its expertise in the field of contact lenses.
Complementarity which will allow to put on the market a product that simplifies the lives of diabetics by measuring blood glucose directly from the eye. An ultra-miniaturized chip and a glucose sensor have been developed by Google X Lab. With this electronic, blood glucose is measured every second in tears. This is at least as well as a working prototype presented by Google in January.
Recall that, globally, the World Health Organization indicate that 347 million people have diabetes. The almost continuous measurement of blood glucose would act more quickly to regulate the level of glucose in the blood and avoid complications.
Google and Novartis added that these contact lenses also enable people with presbyopia to read without glasses.
