PS4 or Xbox One: what to choose today?

Already a month has elapsed since E3 2014 exactly 36 days since the doors of the largest international video game trade show is closed. 36 days that I hold to write this article as it is easy to be blinded by the intensity of the moment.

So calm down our heated with rifle trailers in 1080p 60 fps for this serious debate and analyze the situation minds. Today, what is the console that must be purchased between the PS4 and Xbox One?

What has changed since the launch of the consoles?

Fast forward back at E3 2013 when PS4 and Xbox One had been unveiled. I will 100% honest playing with you: I'm a gamer for a very long time and I owned including Playstation, PS2 and PS3 ... ever Microsoft console. So I arrived at this E3 2013 with a positive attitude for the future Sony console.

This E3 was yet converted me to the cause of the Xbox One proposing something different & innovative. She seemed in phase advance with the challenge of an interface to the voice (to which technology will tend more and more), which was a boost in connectivity and performance features and an impressive Kinect.

But this sense of geek was to spend the confrontation of the family reunion. You can imagine that I am the person who is asked to advise on its next smartphone, tablet, computer, etc. and I have several times had to answer this question: "So, which console should I choose? "

PS4 and Xbox One was about to leave at the time. And putting myself in the shoes of an average consumer (and not a tech writer passionate about innovation) I realized that the calculation was going against what my heart told me.

Both consoles are similar on most points: power, features, game collection (in addition to some exclusive) BUT  Xbox One was offered € 100 more expensive at the time. Justify the price difference to a consumer who wants "just" play the new generation of games was impossible. I asked them what they wanted on their console, and they gave me the title name of Ubisoft, Rockstar, Activision, Warner Bros ... that editors who work on the two platforms. If I kept to myself a preference for Xbox, I advised the PS4 (and even more to those who had loved the Naughty Dogs games or Quantic Dream).

In the mind of a consumer, the 100 € was not anything ... especially without being able to get in front of enough tangible benefits.

E3 2014: the choice narrows

For this E3 2014, Microsoft was smart to offer a pack One Xbox 399 € to put on a par with the PS4. The decision between the two consoles can no longer be a question of price.

Of course, this also means that the pack € 100 cheaper does not contain Kinect, the camera that was as integral to the mission of the Xbox One. A strategic change that comes a little scrape large ambitions behind. But overall, we are left with the ball to 0-0 center ... the game may take on a new equity foot.

One Xbox and PS4 are both next generation consoles with very similar capabilities that will allow you to play essentially the same games. So how to choose?

On games of course! A fact that the two builders had understood by focusing their presentations on their particular games and exclusives! 36 days have not eroded my initial feeling as I was comforted in the idea that Microsoft and Sony were less confrontational this year, but more trying to talk to their respective audiences to move them to the new generation. This E3 was the one of the transition to the next generation.

The only difference is going to be within the exclusive.

This year, Microsoft was able to offer more exclusives for the console. This is undeniable. But these exclusives are of uneven quality. It comes down to a question of money ... the consumer generally may not buy 30 games a year and he just takes 3-4 that will make the difference. Each side has its arguments with Halo 5 or Quantum Break the side of the Xbox One and Uncharted 4 or The Order for the PS4.

The choice between the Xbox and the PS4 One has become less obvious than before ... and we should wait to see THE title without which you can not live to help you in your choice. It is unthinkable for you not to make the next Quantic Dream? Towards the PS4 it will move. The promise of fabulous Quantum Break (from the creators of Max Payne) and the presence of his TV series companion (innovative method of storytelling that will be present for Halo) enchants you more ... it's the Xbox One to be purchased. We're not going to pre-chew choice ... that's the beauty of it: there is no longer any obvious disadvantage and manufacturers will have to fight and innovate to find ways to inspire.
