Facebook Messenger is ready for mobile payments between friends

Like magic, mobile payments have become fashionable. While in France the process is indeed to lag behind the United States, stores and American banks are scrambling to join the Apple Pay platform, investors are promoting Square, and now it seems Facebook considering adding mobile payments in its mobile Messenger application. A computer science student at Stanford, Andrew Aude, used a tool called Cycript Development decompile the source code of Facebook Messenger, and found that everything is set up for payments between friends.

Aude took screenshots and a short video of functionality and has posted on Twitter. Once this feature enabled, it seems that users are able to send mobile payments to friends in Messenger, and the same way they send pictures. Users simply have to add a debit card Messenger, or confirm that they have already set up with Facebook. Currently, only debit cards work with the service, no credit cards. A PIN protects each payment in-app.

To send money to a friend, you just need to open Messenger, talking to the person you want to send money, and press the checkout button. Messenger will ask you how you want to send and once you have confirmed the amount, it is credited to the account of your friend.

According to statements by Andrew Aude to Techcrunch , the next Messenger feature works like this: "the mechanism it uses is to debit an account, then use some magical means to locate the bank account number of the recipient and to make a deposit, Square similar to Cash " .

Andrew Aude has also found evidence of the future integration of PayPal into the source code of the application, but said it was not yet available. Integrating PayPal would be a logical step for the service, not only because it is a popular mobile payments company, but also because the former president of PayPal, David Marcus, is now in charge of Messenger.

Aude added that Facebook has to pay a certain amount for each transaction , as any other mobile wallet, envirion 0.40 to 0.50 dollars per transaction.

If mobile payments a reality Messenger, Facebook could be a new source of income. The feature would also differentiate Messenger address its many competitors. It is not known when this new feature will be online, but Andrew Aude believes it should not be long.
