Nextbit syncs your Android device to the cloud at the iOS

Nextbit, a company founded by two former Google employees already working on Android, announced a new service that provides the ability to transmit an open another Android device mobile application . Likely playing on the popular term "handover" ( passing the baton) in athletics, the "Baton" service is designed to work with all Android applications. For example, if you are playing Angry Birds on your Android smartphone and you want to spend on your tablet, some manipulations directly open Angry Birds on your tablet, and at the same level you were on your smartphone.

Speaking of the need for such a feature, Nextbit CEO Tom Moss stated: "When I read an article, playing a game, or buys something online, the entire process is stopped if I want to change Terminal. Until now, there was no good way to take a tablet at the same place where you left your smartphone. Our mobile activities should not only be available on a single device. Therefore Nextbit built a future that focuses on the experiences and not the device " . A bell strongly reminiscent Continuity on iOS: "Now we can start writing an email on your iPhone and continue on his Mac. Or browse the Web on your Mac and continue his research from the same link on his iPad ".

While companies like Netflix video streaming or Hulu strongly worked to provide such functionality for their own platform, this service would be a superior experience because the whole process of "migration" is provided by "Baton". Under the hood of the latter, a synchronization technology that stores the state of an application and its data, so you can easily switch from one device to another. With an interface named "Pass", you'll be able to send the status of an application to another device without too much difficulty. The whole is maintained by the operating system, no API is necessary.

In addition to this, Baton also offers a synchronization feature to synchronize all applications and data between devices belonging to the same person . There is also a backup feature that records all application information to the cloud , to restore a device. Currently, the service is in private beta exclusively on CyanogenMod and three mobile devices: the Nexus 5, 7 and Nexus One OnePlus.

NextBit has the potential to be a really interesting addition to the Android experience (at least on Cyanogen). Especially for people who have two or more devices. The company has already raised $ 18 million, and is currently looking for engineers. It will be very interesting to see how the structure will grow and win.
