The next MacBook Air will further push the boundaries of ultra-portability

Apple is about to unveil its new 12-inch MacBook Air.

The MacBook Air has always been a reference in terms of finesse for a laptop. Indeed, in contrast to the majority of ultra-portable, the MacBook Air is as a high-performance computer despite extreme lightness and finesse.

The result: Microsoft will still try to position themselves as runner up MBA , even though the latter has not undergone major changes for several years. Indeed, the last major change in the range must go back to October 2010. It had even caused us an insoluble problem when testing the latest MacBook Pro , which offered a much higher power, while achieving ultra-portable size.

It was not counting on the 2015 update of the MacBook Air. Expected for a launch that can take place from today until mid-2015, we should not have to wait until the fall to obtain this new version.

Thinner, lighter, but still with fewer ports

A list of changes, please note:

The new MacBook Air will have a 12 inch screen (the previous version was declined in 11 and 13 inches)
>> It will be almost two times finer than the current 11-inch

>> Its keyboard will occupy the entire space (more free strips on the sides)

>> Similarly, around the edge of the screen will be very fine

>> Consequently the previous 2 points, 12 inches will be less wide than the current 11-inch

>> The screen will have a better resolution (retina display?)

>> Apple separates from all ports, except an audio jack and a single USB port

>> This unique USB port will follow the standard USB-C that puts the wires in both directions, but also should allow charging and upload / download data broadband.

These changes, even if they are all going in the direction that we know Apple, are quite impressive. Hard to imagine a MacBook Air twice thinner than the previous one. But the biggest challenge will concern the disappearance of several ports (Thunderbolt, 1 USB port on the 2 and possibly also the MagSafe power). Often criticized on this point, Apple could persist and sign this choice in this ultra-minimalist MacBook Air.

It remains to be seen to what extent the loss of several ports will be offset by the versatility of the new USB-C.

Apple and proves once again have sufficiently under the hood to surprise us. It now remains to wait for the next stage rise of Tim Cook to formalize this new MacBook Air 2015, and complete the already many details we have on the machine.
