Toshiba has developed 3D-display with a resolution of Ultra HD, 3D-glasses is not needed

Toshiba Corporation of Japan announced the development of a high-definition display that displays three-dimensional picture to view which does not require special glasses. The new product is planned to show next month.

Innovative LCD panel is built on the lenses with variable refractive index (GRadient-INdex, GRIN) and low crosstalk (2% versus 5% for conventional 3D-screens). The current prototype has a 15-inch diagonal and a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels (Ultra HD, 4K) .

The display allows you to switch between two-dimensional (in the format 4K) and stereoscopic (HD) modes without compromising on brightness when switching to 3D and without a strong deterioration in the quality 2D-image. The manufacturer claims that created a 15-inch 4K-display-based GRIN is characterized by a 5-fold superiority in resolution stereoscopic images compared with the previously developed Toshiba counterpart.

New LCD-panels can have different diagonal and application - from mobile devices to the medical and industrial products.

Toshiba is going to show GRIN-screens at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015, which is from 6 to 9 January will be held in Las Vegas.
