iWork available free for Windows users

Fracture increasingly close between Mac and PC ecosystem thins again today. Indeed, the famous Apple iWork office suite is now available to Windows users by iCloud services . The platform is available to anyone with an Apple ID and can connect to iCloud, whether you do it on your MacBook or Windows PC. This agnostic approach on the device seems to suggest that Apple has high hopes for the ability of the iCloud service attract new users to its own ecosystem, even after the controversies of last year.

Web versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote, are, respectively, Apple answers to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and can now be used by anyone with an Apple ID. The intention is clear that the tools are used in Apple devices, but leave them open to curious PC users might try some of the solutions anchored to the Redmond company. One of the greatest strengths of the suite is its ability to produce aesthetic documents: the release of iOS Pages was announced as the best text editing service ever seen on a portable device.

However, this release is not only related to the age-old rivalry between Mac and PC. Web-productivity platforms are emerging battlefield several different companies aim to provide. Apple has a big job in front of her if she would like iWork tickles Google Docs and Office 365.

Following Apple's iCloud was launched in 2011 as a storage platform on the cloud, allowing users to save their data and access it from different devices. Since then, the features of the service gradually expanded, but the addition of today represents its largest expansion to date.

Rather than simply providing tools that complement the use of Apple devices, iCloud is launched as something great. Instead of just uploading files to iCloud to access it later, it is now possible to use software like Pages to do your work within iCloud. Apple probably hopes that the exposure of potential customers for its own applications and user interface of these will convince them to join their product ecosystem. This is not too different strategy of how Google is binding on all its services in a single account.

IWork to try by yourself, simply just go on the site iCloud and sign in with your Apple ID. Pages, Numbers and Keynote will all be available as long as you have updated your account to iCloud Drive.
