As often, and while the update has not yet been officially announced by Google, the team's Andoid Police managed to get hold of a first version of the updated application, which can -be not the final version. The most obvious change is that the application now widely adopted the guidelines imposed by Google for Material Design .
Thus, and according to the leak, Google Hangouts 4.0 will replace the three-column layout with a single column that is a bit more smart and makes better use of the available space. The home screen will show a list of mainly recent conversations, while a floating button "new conversation" will be embedded at the bottom right of the screen.
An overhaul conversations
Conversation The screen will also receive some changes. In a chat screen, Hangouts much more like iMessage and rounded with its floating bubbles. A new menu bar at the bottom of the message input area replaces the paperclip icon and allows to quickly add photos, emojis or a location to your posts.
Your avatar is no longer displayed in the chat window and the color palette has been reversed. Indeed, your comments are now white, while incoming messages are green.
The update 4.0 of the Android app will also provide the ability to change the status of the user, a feature that the web version of Hangouts has for some time now.
Unfortunately, the tablet version of Hangouts is not yet optimized. It is essentially a stretched version of the Hangouts version 4.0 that you have before you. However, this will change as soon as the application will be launched.
