The Xiaomi Mi 4 is a smartphone with a 5 inch screen with a resolution Full HD, 3GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 801. It comes with Android, and Xiaomi own overcoat, called MIUI. But, people who want to try something a little different have that opportunity from 1 June.

Indeed, the happy owners of this Chinese smartphone will be able to install a pre-release version of Windows 10 on that date. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced plans to build a version preview of Windows 10 available for users of the Xiaomi Mi 4 . Today, this version of the mobile operating system is about to emerge. Indeed, a Chinese form is available to register for the test drive.

This does not necessarily mean that Xiaomi really expected to sell smartphones with Windows 10. Instead, Xiaomi is working with Microsoft to release Windows 10 as a custom ROM that advanced users might install on an Android smartphone, the same way that they can install CyanogenMod, Ubuntu Phone, or any other ROM on such a device.

A first for an "Android smartphone"
Windows 10 for smartphones is preparing to be launched later in the year, a few months after Windows 10 PC is released. Microsoft has left the possibility for members of the Windows Insider program to test the preview builds of Windows 10, but until recently, this version has supported only a handful of Lumia smartphones. The recent build added support for some non Lumia devices, but the Xiaomi Mi 4 will be the first smartphone comes with Android able to get an official release of Windows 10 .

It is not known whether Microsoft will continue to grow a ROM as soon as Windows 10 operating system will be officially launched, or if this is just a way for more users provide feedback. But I suspect there are a lot of power users running Android that are ready to switch to Windows 10 when they know they can always return to Android if they need to recover the operating system Google.

Maybe one day we will see Windows 10 running on Google Nexus devices?
