ZTE Star 3: the first smartphone to opt for a 4K screen?

While the screens with a resolution HD Quad start to become the standard on Android flagship smartphone, it was only a matter of time before a manufacturer is crazy enough to board an Ultra HD display on a smartphone. ZTE seems to be that company, since his next Star 3 could be the world's first smartphone with such a screen, reports GizmoChina.

According to the publication, the ZTE Star 3 will have a 5.5 inch screen with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, giving the screen a pixel density of 808 ppi . Totally amazing! If now Sharp has already created a 5.5 inch screen with such a resolution, it is not expected to enter mass production before 2016. As such, it is rumored that BOE Technology, a Chinese company that manufactures and sells the technology in other surrounding screens, is responsible for the production of the Star 3 screen.

As for the screen itself, it is rumored to be a TFT panel with a special crystal structure, which could help reduce energy consumption while being able to withstand some shocks. However, TFT panels have been criticized because they offer poor viewing angles as compared to IPS panels that are commonly found on today's smartphones. We will see what the situation is with this 3 Star.

Useful or not?
Whether the Star 3 has such a screen, Android Authority raises the question of whether people will actually see the passage of the Quad HD Ultra HD, or even 1080p Ultra HD . It is certainly easier to notice the difference on a TV, but on a smartphone screen, the difference could end up being negligible for many.

As always, we must be careful with rumors, but only time will tell if ZTE is moving forward with an Ultra HD screen on its 3 Star, which currently has no release date.
