Quick quiz:

If you want to save someone's phone number, you go into Contacts?

If you want to view your upcoming appointments, you go into Calendar?

But if you want to save an address (restaurant, bar, shop, etc.) do you really go to Google Maps?

Because if it remains "possible" in practice (you for the name of a location in Google Maps, click on its name and you press star "Save"), the use will remain limited in the sense where you will end up with a card covered with stars, without the ability to filter, consult pleasantly or share with a friend.

It is with this fact in mind Sebastien Caron, a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique and HEC Paris, decided to embark body and soul in creating Mapstr , an application at the crossroads between the notepad and mapping.

How to use Mapstr?

When you start Mapstr you arrive immediately on your map in full screen (powered by card application Apple maps) with a blue dot to represent your position.

A "+" button at the bottom of the screen gives you three choices:

add a location by entering its name or address
scan the address of the place using the camera on your phone;
look around you known addresses
Once the address is found, you can add tags (with the proposed choice among existing tags if you do not want to create a new tag), add a comment and "hop" (you can also choose to keep this private address ).

Once the "map your world" made, you'll be presented with a card where only your favorite places stand out. Now you and just choose one and click on it to access opening hours, to the route, the ability to call, photos, etc.

You can also, if you wish, access the card of your friends (this can be done via Facebook Connect or through a search of classic friends) to discover their favorite places.

Ultra-convenient to retrieve the list of good vegetarian restaurants in Paris that your friend was able to compile.

The application is still in its infancy; it has also just come out of beta at the moment for a fresh presence on the App Store a few hours. But the ambition and enthusiasm of Sebastien Caron, CEO of Mapstr are highly communicative and make you want to see more of this story (phase 1: an Android application, Phase 2: a takeover by Google?)
