Last year we raised a rather special smartwatch called BLOCKS  who, like smartphones Ara Google project is modular. The case of the watch, or the heart, offers basic features such as notifications, tracking physical activity, voice controls, a touchscreen, a battery that lasts a day and a half, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Everything runs on a modified version of Android Lollipop.


But the most important part of the show is her bracelet. Thereof is connected to the housing and can be composed of modules that add functionality. A module can for example be a battery that allows for additional autonomy, a fingerprint scanner or an NFC chip to make mobile payments. And also, the platform will be open to third parties who want to develop modules for the watch.


The advantage of a modular product is that it allows the user to customize the product, instead of buying a smartwatch whose specifications imposed by the manufacturer. In addition, the product has a longer life since his recent user to add components or replace defective components.

The debut on Kickstarter

After talking to her for months, modular smartwatch BLOCKS debuted on Kickstarter.

And to order a framing (+ a bracelet that contains no modules), it will cost at least $ 195 as part of this campaign. But it will not happen before May.


At first 5 modules will be available for this quadrant: a battery pack, for additional autonomy, a heart rate reader module, a GPS module, a module for NFC contactless payments and an "Adventure" module that measures altitude, atmospheric pressure and temperature.

However, the company who designed this product intends to develop others. Moreover, as I mentioned earlier, the platform will be open to other developers.

In any case, the clock seems to have attracted a lot of online more than a month because at the end of the campaign, it has already raised over $ 450 000, while the objective was to 250,000 dollars.
