At the MWC 2016, Sony unveiled several new connected accessories and wants to keep it that way with its Future Lab Program .
With this project, the Japanese want to dream users with concepts and prototypes then use the feedback from users to launch new products. A sort of idea laboratory oriented mobile technology (or wearable).
Sony wants to (re) dream
Unveiled in early March, the announcement was accompanied by a teaser with the N Concept , a sound device worn around the neck that will "liberate your ears, your hands and your eyes" . With this project, Sony intends to develop a "hands-free user interface" to enjoy the music and sound without requiring the user need to insert an object into his ear. SXSW was then the perfect event to introduce this prototype.
" Let It Go "
The idea is ambitious, offer the user the opportunity to listen to his music or his favorite podcasts without being cut off from the outside world and not disturb others. Wireless, Concept N can act as voice assistant and responds with the command "Arc" , giving it a little Google Glass side. The sites PCMag and The Verge have seen a closer look at the device.
We learn that the voice recognition is still perfectible, the representative of Sony had to take it four or five times to take a picture but the two were surprised by the audio quality of the device still in the prototype stage. PCMag evokes a "musical bubble" while the Verge talks about a his "surprisingly clear" when wearing the Concept N, enough to enjoy the music without the person next to being able to recognize the song.
Finally for those who would find it difficult to separate the good old helmets, Sony has planned headphones to plug into its Concept N and they are as surprising as they are "holes". Indeed, the Japanese giant would not depart from the rule that it has set, i.e "free your ears" .
It is not yet known whether the concept will be marketed by Sony but the neckband headphones are on the rise. LG with its Tone Infinim and the French company Adibla with Neckmaster have also gambled on this helmet, opposite headphones noise reduction.
